My new Mazda 323f has an old Clarion cassette player, which although sounds quite good, was not up to the job of playing CDs. After a bit of internet research I decided to buy a new CD player with an MP3 AUX connection on the front. I went for a Sony, that costs just £50.
Today I went to fit the unit. First thing was to remove the Clarion. I had an old tool which seemed to fit the holes, but it wouldn’t budge. I tried all sorts of things but struggled to get it out. Eventually I used a dinner knife to fold back the tabs that hold the entire assembly in the space. Not the most elegant technique, but I got the whole unit out without any damage.
The new Sony unit went straight in and all the connectors matched perfectly.
So now I have a great sounding CD player that I can plug my MP3 player into.
